Knitting Meditations

“We live in a world of machines.  Our world moves faster, bigger, and better every moment. Machines replace humans and often do our jobs better.
When you are knitting socks, sweaters and scarves, you aren’t just knitting.  You are assigning a value to human effort. You are holding back time. You are preserving the simple unchanging act of handwork.”

Welcome to my blog

Well, I've joined the weird memeticism of blogging. It's always seemed so exhibitionist and egotistical. Yet I realized how much I enjoyed reading knitting and crocheting blogs, so figured what the hell. I'll start my own.

I've actually toyed with the idea before. Started one after Katrina hit New Orleans and left me very philosophical for a while. But knitting and crocheting and other things creative seem more fun to write about, so I'll let that one die and start this happier blog on all things yarn.

We're moving to Texas soon. Right smack in the middle of nowhere, TX. So this blog may very well become my link to the world "out there" after the move in Spring 06. That's why the name of the blog -- because we will be living on a big ass ranch with our big asses. Now, for those that stumble on this blog somehow (see? the egoism is starting already) it's not WE who are the big asses. We own big asses. As in Mammoth Donkeys. And then our ranch is also quite large. My personal ass, as in the one I sit on, is not big. Yet. Ha ha ha ha ha....

OK. Today I am knitting with my friend Janice. She actually will be here soon and I have not yet fed my Big Asses nor have I showered. So I should really go do those things and tell my little blog here all about our knitting adventures later.
